Students are free to go for tranquil walks around the farm and to explore the local countryside. Our nearest attraction is Birr Castle [http://www.birrcastle.com/] and this is well worth a visit. Ireland is famous for its horses and we can arrange riding lessons or, if you prefer, you may join a group on a cross-country trail ride. For those of you who like to keep both feet on the ground there is tennis, squash and golf [with a choice of several courses] all in the vicinity of the school. On Lough Derg, largest and most spectacular of the Shannon lakes, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of fishing, rowing or sailing. Cruiser hire for a day or week can be arranged. The lakeshore has many attractive and safe places for picnics and swimming. [www.ireland.ie] Trips to places of historical, cultural and environmental interest can be arranged with a guide and transport if desired. As the school is situated in the centre of Ireland it provides an excellent base from which to explore more of our beautiful and varied country. Car and bicycle can be arranged locally. Dublin or in Kerry or Galway or go to Clare and visit the

There is also the Unique Bog Tour on the Clonmacnoise and West Offaly Railway http://www.bnm.ie/ For those who enjoy an evening out there is, as well as the typical Irish pubs, a wide choice of excellent restaurants in the area.
